4 Tips for Your Growing Business

May 3, 2021

Being a small business owner has its rewards and its challenges. One challenge can be that it isn’t clear how to approach natural growing pains in your business. Here are four tips to tackling what's thrown at you on a day-to-day basis.

Be patient with yourself

As a business owner, you're pulled in many different directions. If you notice details being missed, take a moment to see how you can improve your processes to ensure your quality is maintained. Solid system foundations will allow your business to grow and continue to deliver quality services.

Trust your team

You've chosen people to help you succeed. Trust them to bring their talents and unique experience to the table.

Delegate

It's your business and no one knows it better than you. So knowing when to delegate is important. Play to your team members' strengths and know your personal weaknesses. Not savvy with social media? Delegate. Not a content writer? Focus on your business and delegate the writing to a member of your team.

Ask for feedback

It can be intimidating to ask for feedback, but it’s so important to learn what people are actually thinking about your business. Just ask. Talk to friends, employees, your banker, members of your network, and even social media connections. Feedback helps you make adjustments to improve the course of your business. There are free local resources available including MSSU's Small Business Development Center and 1 Million Cups through the Joplin Chamber. You might also consider putting together a small group of advisors to call on when you have a big decision to make.

Don’t underestimate the value of your banker. They aren't just there to lend money when you need it. They are a listening ear and will be right there with you for the highs, lows, and everything between.
